"The nine-track effort... captures exactly what the band’s been doing the last 12 months: bringing music to life."–Consequence of Sound
"Edison's 'Open Road' is an upbeat piece of acoustically-inclined folk, all harmonicas and hand claps and good cheer."–PopMatters
“Edison…filled the lounge with energy that never ebbed the whole night over both sets, once that first note rang. A trio that breaks away from the average folk band sound structure with the likes of legato trumpet parts, floor tom and kick heavy percussion, and finger style guitar that rivals classical methodology…”–No Depression

Denver trio Edison has premiered new album Familiar Spirit (out this Friday via Rhyme & Reason Records). Curve Magazine has the exclusive album stream alongside Edison frontwoman Sarah Slaton's touching coming out story, which is previewed here:
"One evening I came out to [my roommates] and let them know that I was dating a girl, but hoped for their support. The following day I returned from class to have my RA (Resident Advisor) in the room waiting for me. It was explained to me that my roommates weren't comfortable living with me given my 'lifestyle' and I would need to change rooms. I was mortified and packed my things. There was no coverage for me in non-discrimination policy at the time and I found myself in a corner room at the end of the hall (I kid you not) with fellow outcasts. The silver lining in this story is that I later became the Co-President of BIGALA (Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Alliance) and the organization was able to add sexual orientation to the policy before we graduated."
Curve's Familiar Spirit premiere follows yesterday's premiere of Edison's "Open Road" video on Reverb/Denver Post. The video for "Open Road" depicts the nomadic lifestyle that accompanies Edison's constant touring. The song is one of Familiar Spirit's most upbeat and high-energy, a proper reflection of Edison's beloved live show. Familiar Spirit contrasts "Open Road" with gorgeous folk songs that can be heard across the country as Edison tours the naton with Jared and the Mill.
